Damnit, I have been wanting to replace my old 23" CRT with a new 19" TFT for a while now. But I have had to spend half the money saved on getting the server fixed, and I still have absolutely no guarentee that it will fix the problem. Im also starting to think that I should have bought a bigger SATA hard disk just incase it doesnt fix the problem at least then I would have some substancial space to add to my own computer (80GB just coveres my photography, 3D rends and film media project data, so my usual upgrade would be 350GB).
I have bought for the server a 80GB SATA hard disk and a SATA raid card because the motherboard doesnt support the standard and I think the onboard ATA chips are fried. This is pretty much a short term fix, the long term would be building a new server from scratch cheaply – reusing the available components that arnt dammaged such as new processer, new motherboard, new case and new PSU.
I am going to use Debian linux for the server I have used it in the past and only used gentoo this last time because I wanted to play around. But debian is easier to play with in my eyes.
New parts will be here in three days server should be up and running by the end of the week and all the hosted websites will be fully functional by next monday.
