Game rendering planets in real time
Revised: June 22, 2006
As seen on digg.com Infinity: the quest for earth looks to have an amazing game engine, capable of rendering life size solar systems in real time on what appears to be a pretty normal gaming pc. The demo video shows the engine to have some pretty impressive features. Within the video the user rotates around a planet as if in orbit and then zooms into it passing though what appears to be dynamic atmosphere down the ground level and then fly’s over the ground. The creators claim that the planet is life size rendered and that if you were to fly around it in the game going at the same speed as a aeroplane it would take two hours to circle the planet, within which you would not have seen a single feature twice as the ground topography is unique.
The game itself is described by the creators as being a massively multiplayer online game set in a futuristic persistent universe. Where players can discover a huge galaxy with billions of planets and can explore, combat, trade, socialize and more with the possibilities being endless.
