New PSU
Revised: July 23, 2006
Well for those of you who noticed the website has been down since early dismorning. The recent problems with the server had been caused by a failing PSU causing no end of troubles across the system. The PSU the server came with was probably the cheapest one the builders could get their grubby little hands on so I decided I would get a good PSU as a replacement. The priority wasn’t value for money, but how quickly I could have the product installed in the server. As it’s a Sunday it had to be a local store so that left me with two choices, PC World and Maplins. After a quick search I settled on the 450w Xpower PSU as it was on offer and looked to be the best for the job.
Once getting home it took me 15 mins to rip out and throw away the old psu then 5 mins to install the new one. I must say after installing it, I think I should have maybe swapped it with the one in my pc because this PSU looks very sexy. It has a very nice black finish and gold fan covers. The two 80mm fans hardly make any noise at all which is now a problem as I need to get a new heat sink fan for the processor so the entire unit is quiet.
All in all I think this is a pretty good PSU, now all the server needs is a couple of quiet fans and it shall be all fixed up ![]()
