I know it has been quite a while since I last posted an update here, plus this months features have been posted at the end of the month rather than the beginning. This is because I have been busy driving up and down England shooting footage and editing it for a film thats coming out next month. However I now have a few hours spare and so I shall spend them updating the website with what should be a regular monthly posting. Next months will be shown in a few weeks time to give these wonderful works of art the full exposure they deserve.
This month I have focused more on new artists and for the time being just photography. It takes me several days to compile a list of works I like and several hours to pick out a selection and write about them. Unfortunately I haven’t had time this month and so instead I can only bring you three features.
I quite like this photo as it stood out from the others while I was browsing deviantart’s latest submissions last night. The photo itself appears to have been taken with wet media and as such contains a good deal of grain which black and white photography is known for. Although the photo itself is slightly over exposed in areas over all I feel that the scene has been captured well and cant criticize too much simply on an exposure level as the rest of the photo has been really well captured from a technical standpoint. The main reason for featuring this photo other than the aforementioned merits is because I really like that dress and if the photo was taken with slightly better exposure to bring out more of the dresses detail then this would be a much, much better photo. As it stands I do like this photo a lot and feel that its author deserves more exposure, please go and comment on her work and give some critical support. I look forward to seeing more photographic work from her.
Back into the depths which are the artistic nude community on deviantart where we tend to find more tasteless photos than ever nowadays, however Livvy an’ a scarf is far from tasteless debauchery of the female form, actually quite the opposite in fact. I am amazed at the amount of detail that flash750 has managed to capture in this photo most notably within the skin tones and the light reflecting off Livvy’s hair. This is the reason why I have chosen to feature this work, it has been extremely well exposed; blacks are black and whites are white with a fantastic graduation of tones between the two. I urge you to check out the rest of his gallery as he has a wide variety of nude works which are extremely well composed and captured with the high degree of quality in the image able to be seen as constant through out his gallery.
Shot with a home made lens makes this photo awesome enough on its own to attract my attention and make it a good candidate for featuring here as homegrown hack mods are rare to be seen on deviantart especially considering a vast majority of its “photographers” population appear to be “myspace kiddies” who seem to treat deviantart as another form of flickr. You can easily see where the focus point is within this photo, which has a stunning depth of field; not quite sure if that’s been photoshopped in or not, however considering its a home-grown lens it is quite possible that this effect is a feature of said lens. With that said, the focus on the television is extremely sharp and gives the water a very still almost surreal look. This is just one photo of a great many that correiae has in his gallery, all of which I have seen are really, really nice in my opinion, so if you have the time go check out his gallery and say hi.
