Garden

August 18th, 2007

It was with a sudden unexpected awakening that greeted me into the world this morning, it’s what you get when you stay up late and try to have a sleep in on your day off work while the rest of the house want to go out and drag you along. I begrudgingly got out of the warmth that was my bed and quickly showered leaving just enough time to get dressed and grab my camera before being yanked out of the house and stuffed into the smallest of our families cars just because “it burns less petrol”, to be honest it actually runs on diesel and as I wasn’t paying for it this was a moot point in my eyes. Even then while sat in the back of the car I still had little to no idea as to where I was being driven too and shamefully I must admit I still don’t know where I have actually been other than it was a garden with lots of pretty flowers and that the sun did shine long enough for me to get a good hundred or so photos of unique flowers and plants, the local wild life and some bees!

Despite the fact that I missed at least an hours worth of well deserved sleep I did appreciate the chance to take my 50mm 1.8f prime lens out for a play and see how it performs outside of the studio and to be honest I am surprised at the quality I get from it at close focuses considering it’s rated at a macro length of one and a half feet it really does give a degree of crisp detail when focused at its closest extreme as you can see from the above photo.

Duck go quack

I had been thinking of getting a dedicated macro lens for my camera with the only thing putting me off being the price of a brand new lens, however I don’t think it’s a top priority now considering the detail and depth of field I get with my existing lenses, and few macros seem to provide the depth of field I look for let alone for a price I feel comfortable paying. Instead I shall be upgrading to a up-to-date pc by the beginning of next month. My current one is showing its age, being a budget self build at the beginning it started out with components which where cheap because they where old. This time I am hunting out the best components with which to build a much more powerful computer which should be able to keep up with my demands for the next few years or until I eventually get a mac pro… or figure out where I have been today.
