Yet Another Sexy Long Socks Post.

Revised: October 23, 2008

Yes, it has become a regular meme on this blog that I post some “interesting” images of a notorious genre based on the theme of sexy long socks, and this post shall be no exception to that “tradition” here on photogabble. However where as past posts have played upon common innuendos this one is entirely based upon beauty, technical perfection within the photo itself and how unique the socks themselves are.

This photo initially found on Fotografia via tumblr, is a very interesting one and an obvious first choice for this article being that its soul focus is on the design of the sock and the beauty of the leg its worn on. Both the lighting and the composure of the shot highlight this to a great degree and make this one of my favourite photos in this genre yet.

Found on Lexielee.com via a random tumblr post, this photo is a promotional shot for the band/singer lexielee and as such has a slightly professional look to it. The colour is consistent throughout the frame thanks to a good use of lighting both natural and I believe filler flash to provide contrast through the entire colour spectrum. The socks shown here are quite clichéd as the rainbow sock pattern is over used and some might say “cheap”. It is here however an embodiment of the image as a whole, showing the availability and use of the entire spectrum as well as the photographers skill at reproducing the scene, capturing all element with the same brightness; something that can prove to be quite difficult to even the amature photograher. Either that or the socks went well with the outfit, or something like that.

This photo was linked to from another random tumblr post, however the source page was not referenced, all I know is that it came from the ALTphotos community but not who took it nor the model in the shot. One thing I do like about this photo is the “shade” or “burnt” effect around the edge of the frame, most notably on the right which helps lead the eyes. There is quite a lot of things going on in this frame with colour contrast between the light blue and dark blue of the top acting to complement the green of the socks quite nicely against the beautiful skin of the model. It is this forethought into the composition of the photo which places it here within my list, the socks themselves as with the previous rainbow ones are not themselves amazing however here the photographer has made them eyecapturing and thus making the photo make this list.

I had been linked to the source of this via a random tumblr blog, neither had sourced the original artist therfore I am unable to provide an author for this piece. From looking at this photo I can see again several complex things happening however there can be noted to be several more elements to this photo than any prior to it within this list. First of all there is the depth of field or Bokeh as the Japanese call it, this lends the eye to the orange shoes being worn by the model. The space hopper in the background is largely ignored, at least by my eyes and appears to act simply to provide a similar colour to the dominant orange of the socks within an otherwise empty space thus filling it in. The socks themselves are quite mundane but within the context of this photo they have become more than that, exemplifying and to some extent extending the natural beauty of the models legs while leading the viewers eye further up the frame towards the contrasting short green skirt. There is a colour gradient occuring here, between the green and orange and while it is not absolutely apparent it does add to the beauty within the frame.

This photo and the last on the list below both come from the same source as the one above and as such I have no idea who the author is. With that said this photo is one of the few in this list based upon the uniqueness of the socks themselves and as such I felt had to be included within this list. While the first post and every post since has had a lot of photographic elements mixed in with them to build the final composition this one takes a more basic approach leaving the socks themselves to make the photo beautiful and interesting. The only real photographic element within this photo is colour contrast and the contrast between tones, such as the green of the socks against the blue of the sky and the difference between both colours tone leading one to be dominant and within focus. The socks themselves are not entirely that interesting, indeed the first sexy long socks photo within this list had an amazing pattern on them and while the others where not exactly that interesting the photographers used their skill to make an interesting composition out of them producing a very interesting and beautiful shot. Initially I had thought this was good enough for the list but now I am thinking that within the collective I have found and talked a little about here this photo does not look that good at all. While it has a care free feel to it, it does not meet the standards set by other works shown here, however I have left it in the list to highlight the fact that this post as well as these photos is not entirely about just gawping at beautiful, sexy legs sheathed in nicely designed socks. It is about the appreciation of skill that the photographer has in making the object in focus worth gawping at and while every other photo here makes out the socks to be more than they in-fact are, this photo shows them to be just that. Socks.

I didn’t want to end this post with the conclusion linked with the above photo as I want to end a post about beauty with a beautiful photo. As explained above I have no source for this photo It is however a very beautiful shot and unlike several others here  it holds very few photographic techniques to make it what it is. This while making it similar in technique to the above photo does not make it a bad photo in any way, quite the opposite infact as the photographers minimalistic use of technique has made this photo to be a very nice composition the same as the first photo on this list, which is why it is here. There is the simple contrast of focus, tone and colour between the background and foreground colours while the light skin of the model draped over the arm of the chair is a posture that appeals to the male gaze. The lighting used here is very light leading me to believe the photographer used bounced light, diffusers or both to achieve the consistent level of light within the frame. The socks themselves are as with many other in this list quite ordinary in their design, the photographers use of them within the composition however makes them once again more than just socks. Indeed the colours that make up the design of the socks complement the dominant colours within the photo the  reds, skins and grays are more noticable while the design of the socks that complement them become the focal point of the image as the eye is drawn accros the frame following the legs to finaly rest upon them, the socks.
