Sorry, long time no post! I haven’t been much of an internet presence in the respect of publishing blog entries and the likes. However, I recently discovered something very interesting and realised a way I could represent it to the internet.

Yes, this is the latest part of my phobia series… however, I haven’t yet managed to find a word for it, but I know it is very real.

The phobia is of buttons a lot like the one shown above, the little plastic ones that are present on shirts. It involves nausea at the touch or even sometimes the sight of buttons or even talking about them can cause problems… ESPECIALLY when ‘disembodied’ (my way of trying to make “sitting on the floor by itself” sound scientific!)

So since I discovered this fascinating and unexplainable phobia I’ve wanted to show the world (or a small part of it at least) that it’s a real phobia and if you get feelings like this it’s not just you and you may actually have this phobia…

Also know as – Altophobia, Batophobia, Hypsiphobia or Hyposophobia, the dear of heights. This photo was taken at the top of the stairs in the tube station at Hyde Park Corner (I think). There are many scary sets of stairs and escalators throughout the Underground due to the nature of this transport, but this has to have been the highest and steepest set I have seen, not including the many stairs to the top of Covent Garden station, which I have walked up in a moment of madness; however these stairs are spiralled so wouldn't have illustrated this phobia quite as well.

Vertigo is a well known phobia, the feeling of not being safe while a great distance from the ground can cause a lot of trouble for people. Myself I'm not comfortable with heights unless I'm certain that it's been ensured I should be safe, but I wouldn't say I'm phobic of the height itself, as a phobia is defined as being 'irrational' and therefore will not consider things such as safety. For example, I'm uncomfortable on wobbly bridges but will walk on them. I enjoy rollercoastes even when they go high up because I trust that I will be safe

A little extra information – The original photo of this phobia was a second part of discovering this series, originally named "Fear of Falling" and taken of a set of stairs at Paddington station that weren't nearly as steep as these. There is only one or two more of the initial series left before fresh material may appear on this site, I hope people are enjoying it

Note to Mr Twelve – I don't know how or why the font has gone like this, if you're able to fix it do so. Otherwise we shall talk about it when you get back on MSN

I took this while flying to Spain in July 2004. I took it mostly because I was playing with my then-new Nikon Coolpix 570. I took several pictures that all looked similar to this, but this was my favourite. I wanted to remember what it looked like to be looking out of an 'plane, since I don't actually get to do it that often. I'm not all that fussed about going abroad, it's always too hot and unfamiliar… I'm one of those crazy people who actually likes it in England.

This was originally one of the first in the series and made me think about startingit in the first place, when I started it off on deviantART so it's a pretty important photo for the set itself I will post the first in the series another time. Don't get greedy!

The fear of flying is one that I can understand. I'm not particularly worried about being so high up, I love the idea of being able to fly, and the view is just beautiful (as long as there is SOME light). However, quite some time ago I discovered a bash quote that rationalised this phobia for me:

i'm not afraid of flying.
i'm afraid of being 35,000 feet in the air and suddenly *not* flying. It just summed it up so brilliantly for me. I mean, surely the fact you're sat in a plane isn't all that scary. It's the possibility of crashing to Earth again…

So yeah, there we go. A further installation for my phobia series – Hope you enjoy and please leave comments if you do

The main point of me posting the phobia series on this webpage was to show off the photos I had taken without as much commitment to the finishedness of the product (unlike that of deviantART where I post a lot of my art and a lot of the series so far) I hope to one day be able to take the time to shoot what I want, how I want it and post it up on an official page and see how much love it gets there, but in the mean time you lovely people visiting photogabble get to see them and tell me what you think

My point here is, I am submitting an update to my original "Heterophobia" post with a photo taken by Mr Twleve himself on his birthday weekend that I and my boyfriend joined him and Camilla on. It was a lovely evening and much fun was had indeed Anywho, again thee photo is of my boyfriend and I. Some were taken of us kissing in that evening, but I think the feeling of closeness is actually conveyed more in this shot (a few seconds before we kissed). Again, I can't understand the fear of this kind of closeness… however, I'm probably more phobic of other girls than guys, personally. We won't get into that though, it's all very confusing. Hope people enjoy the concept (and photo) and I shall try to submit more of this series before I disappear off to Uni again… (Not long now! How time has flown)

And look! No smelling pistakes!

The meal in the photo is actualy one of my favourites, gammon steak and chips. Was a good meal Imagine how little time you'd last if you followed a phobia of food or eating? I mean… the world would terrify you.

Infact, coincidentally I watched "Over the Hedge" last night with my boyfriend. Enjoyed the film very much, but one thing that really got me smiling was the way that one of the main characters, the 'bad influence' racoon "RJ" pointed out how it would be easy for them to get food off of the humans; "They got food with them. We eat to live – these guys live to eat!". This made me smile even more as he went on to show all the devices and everyday things we have to "summon" food or aid us to keep eating! It's not wonder animals create such havoc trying to get to our scraps… I find it an interesting kind of humour when a script writer can poke fun at humans, and is partly why I enjoy films that "star" animals… ok, so it's not necessarily right about real animals, but it does make you think "Ok, it sounds stupid when you put it THAT way!". Listen to the cute fuzzy animals – People are stupid!

Uh, but… yeah. The point I was making is that it would be SO hard for a cibophobic person to escape… there's the point I just made, along with the fact that we need food, of course…

So, now you have an update. Sorry it's taken my over a month, I've been on holiday and stuff. Or just lazy too, but Mr Twelve managed to kep you updated for a while. I believe he's doing socialising things recently, so maybe this will be a nice welcome when he gets back

Also known as : Aclurophobia, Ailurophobia, Elurophobia, Galeophobia, or Gatophobia (according to phobialist.com)

I thought we needed an update, as Mr Twelve has gotten himself a job that seems to involve not bothering with his blog

So here is another one of my phobia series. This piece has had several forms, all of which have never truly reflected how I’ve wanted pieces to look. My first piece featured Simba, a giner tbby cat and has since disappeared off of the internet, due to it being replaced by the second, which features my Nana’s cat “Picklepants”. As beautiful as she was, she didn’t reflect the phobic side I was looking for either. And the subject you can now see is Sindy. She was the most gorgeous cat in the world and belonged to my boyfriend before having to be given away. I love cats, so seeing them as scary and imagining being phobic is difficult, however, I think this photo shows a slightly evil and manipulative side to these animals…

Ok, so I’m rambling now… I also find that, despite cats craving, loving and adoring all attention, as soon as you pull out a camera they shy away. This was another problem I seemed to be having.

So there we go, an update. And I’m sure I shall update again soon, although I’m having to reupload the images I had to the server, which I’m guessing was due to the whole falling over process (can you tell I don’t understand or really wish to understand? Yeah, I hoped so), so we shall have to see if I can dig them back up!

Take care x

This is a photo of me and my boyfriend, taken by my mother. The quality isn't as great as it's a scanned in photo, but the thoughts behind it as just the same. I can imagine the idea of a kiss to a member of the opposite sex could be quite stressful for a heterophobic… unimaginable to one such as myself, but I suppose that's what comes from being a heterosexual… though on reflection, it could be possible to be heterosexual and heterophobic, I suppose. Same as it's possible to be born into the world and have a phobia of dark or light…madness, if you ask me. The idea of even having to deal with feelings I couldn't control sends a shiver down me… I can't imagine it at all!

Enjoy, please let me know what you think of the idea of this series and any improvements you can think of would be most welcome.

A persistent, abnormal, and irrational fear of a specific thing or situation that compels one to avoid it, despite the awareness and reassurance that it is not dangerous.
A strong fear, dislike, or aversion.

definition from dictionary.com

Well, here is the first in a collection of photos I've been taking to represent phobias. I find it fascinating, the way that things that cause so many so little harm or hassle can create such strong emotions such as fear to some people.

For example, the horse. A majestic and beautiful animal, used for years as a beast to help people with transport and entertainment. Owned as a pet or for work by many people. Yet there are peopel out there who are terrified of them. The size, the smell, the power. This horse here is a stallion at the stud near to my college in Essex. I think this protrays the power and size that people fear (as well as that wild glint in his eye)
