HDRi London Cityscape.

Last Friday, both myself and David from MBS Photographic took a trip to the City of London for the purpose of taking some high quality commercial HDRi photography of the many various sights in the one square mile that is known as the City of London within London. The above is one of the many HDRi photographs I took during the night and it can also be seen in slightly larger detail here on deviantart. The full sized image is a huge 413MB 32mega-pixel image at 300DPI resolution and contains extremely stunning detail! We shall be making prints available of this work very soon, so get in touch if you would be interested in purchasing one.

Ján Hronský Photography.

Initially the difference between fashion and glamour photography escaped me, I just couldn’t understand why the two where different unless I viewed extreme glamour imagery. The above photo captured by Ján Hronský is certainly glamour, however it isn’t to the extreme that most would attribute glamour photography to and indeed some may even lean towards categorising it under the heading of fashion photography.

So what is glamour photography and how is the above photo titled “EsperancE” part of it? To put it simply there is a glamorising of something, be it the legs, the feet, the eyes or the chest, glamour photography appears to take one step closer to pornography without actually going there. In this case the models legs are most undoubtedly the most prominent feature of this shot, with the pose and composition compounding that conclusion, the pulling down of the dress is an additional nod towards pornographic traits and provides additional meaning to the connotations exuded from the rest of the frame. The black and white nature of the photo has been fantastically exposed, however with digital photography that isn’t too difficult and unfortunately you don’t get the rustic grain texturing so lovingly desired within film shots and yet so lacking within the pristine world of digital.

Personally I believe this to be a well modelled, excellently composed and nicely lit, glamour photo which has been nicely exposed in black and white. The photographer Ján Hronský has a website for you to visit and I would most certainly tell you to do so as there you will find a lot more fantastic work to enjoy!

Nikki Churchill pictured above is a professional model from Orlando, Florida. You only have to google her name to find pages of different websites all worshipping her figure with a large proportion just playing host to sets of her modelling photos while others quote meaningless facts from her modelling profile; do people really need to know that her cup size is a 34C unless they are looking to hire her for a shoot? Even then unlike photogabble the vast majority wont link to any official source so the facts are indeed frustrating at best and meaningless at worst.

Jani Askevold – Lingerie Shoot

Over at linkinn they have the below set of Jani Askevold’s Lingerie shoots, however while linkinn seem confused between underwear and bikini’s the shots themselves are really well composed.

With backgrounds that are interesting enough to add to the experience of the photo while not too busy that they detract from the subject in hand – the lingerie. With the body language that Jani is screaming through the frame, the message is clearly two part, one aimed at the men enticing them to purchase these clothes for their ladies to make their sex lives better and the other aimed at the ladies stating buy these and you will look as good as me.

Age old visual marketing is visible within all these shots however when did a little photography theory stop one enjoying the aesthetics of a good photo?

Leighton Meester

I haven’t managed to make time for watching Gossip Girls but apparently Leighton Meester is one of the actress’s that star in that “hit show”. While I have heard mixed feelings about Gossip Girls, everyone I have spoken to is in agreement that Leighton is a beautiful and extremely talented woman. One thing that slightly disturbed me is that she is only a few months older than myself and yet she has appeared in more than forty television series and events, disturbing but also inspiring at the same time; it just goes to show where a lot of determination and talent can get you if you really put your mind to it.

The above photo, including those in the small gallery below, are all from the 2009 Teen Choice Awards which itself boasted over 83 million votes in total, of which Leighton won enough to grab the Best Actress in Drama within the Television category which she picked up wearing a Louis Vuitton dress, Brian Atwood “Zenith” Mary Janes, Cathy Waterman jewels and a Nina Ricci clutch.

Helen Bunney 1957

It would appear that this photo of Helen Bunney taken in 1957 by photographer John French is a bit of an enigma to the online community, not only is there few details floating about but I have yet to see another photo of this beautiful lady anywhere within the virtual domain – something that is often unheard of. Indeed if you place a search on google image for Helen Bunney you will find nothing but unrelated images and the above photo replicated multiple times, interestingly while there is a lot of information on John French and his photography a lot of it has been overlooked by the greater photography community.

This is something I shall be looking into and writing about later this month.

SFW: Sexy Chicken, Sexy Duck!

Every new advert I see pushes the creative boundaries further and further than ever before, this is because an advert has to provoke a reaction during an ever reducing time frame otherwise its not even noticed and the message it carries is not passed on. The following two adverts push that boundary beyond the current limit in a way which is so provocative that it is guaranteed to turn heads let alone draw attention. These provoked a double take for me, something that does not happen often and thus they have been included here, they are two print advertisements for Rachachuros Seasoning. Without adding too much criticism these are simply utilising simple tactics to attain attention, although to a new degree, its still questionable how positive the response from consumers could be.

More Wonderfull long socks.

The above appear to be a mixture between stockings and over the knee socks, I thought I would add them to the various sexy long socks posts already here on photogabble because they appear to be a bit of an oddball. They where sold by a brand called freepeople which I can only assume is some American exclusive fashion boutique because I have never seen it around in England nor heard the name before. These Ruffle Over the Knee Socks are however quite gorgeous and undoubtedly sexy when worn by any woman with legs.

Unfortunately freepeople have sold out of these otherwise I might have got hold of a couple for a future photoshoot, it is odd that because it is out of stock their online shop shows its price as $0.00 and as I am sure such complex stitching must have a price I did a little bit of googling to find one blog quote $24.

In any case, if you find these anywhere else on the internet then leave a comment and let me know.

Starbucks Coffee Girl

One thing that struck me recently about lookbook is the maturity of its audience, or rather the people whom subscribe to its community. Not only are they from all over the word but also from a variety of age groups, cultural background, cliches and sub-cultures. Take the young Miss Alice Bremberg shown above (source), I stumbled upon this particluar image of hers while browsing the profile of another member of lookbook it was the pose that interested me at first because the vast majority of lookbook photos are taken while the model is standing or sat on a chair, it is very rare to see them sat cross legged so the pose is rare and interesting especially from a photographic point of view. I am sure this was not the intention of the photographer (Miss Bremberg) but sometimes the best photos are composed more through luck than intention; seccondly the simple colours provided on show in contrast to complex textures gives the eye something to really look at, more so the blue of the tights because it stands out so much against the white of the bed-sheets. One criticism of this photo I must add is the position of the lamps behind the girl, while I am sure these are fixed and subsequently unable to be removed I would have been temped to photoshop them out of the image in post-production before publishing, if for no other reason than to see if the photo worked with them out of the picture. As it is this is an outstanding photo for lookbook standards and one I felt nessessary to share here.

Ellery

Through the fashion blog leflassh.com I recently came accross the above photo from Ellery, the model is wearing what can only be considered as very expensive lingerie with the price per item being over $300 it is however from a photographic point of view a very well composed image. I had originally thought that the model was wearing white tights or body suit, however upon further inspection it appears to be a colour correction done in post-production as I dont believe that the model is that colour normally. The pose over the sofa extenuates the girls legs while showing off the lingerie in a very provokative fashion, this pose is very typical of the kind that make use of the male gaze which is no suprise when you take into consideration that most advertising of this kind of clothing is targeted towards men to buy it for their girl with the slight undertone of “only you can afford it, because your the working man.” Still feminist theory aside, this is a very nice shot, well composed, well lit and beautifully shot, while I am not too over-keen on the reflection from the left leg, this shot is a good favourite for the time being.
