Before lego brought out its star wars themed sets in response to the increasing interest in the making of episodes I, II and III; there were a small group of stop motion artists whom made custom figurines and sets developed their own blue screen software to produce an accurate reproduction of Star Wars IV in lego but to the original sound track. I first found this about five or six years ago when brick-films was a very small website and the idea of lego stop motion was barely on the drawing board, it was the top google response to lego star wars remake but now it has completely disappeared from all results, instead replaced by a ton of uninteresting fluff. I shall be searching the internet for this six minute replay, for as far as I know the people who made it still go round lego conventions screening it. I really hope they do because it was an awesome reproduction, with high production value for a six minute short.

From what I remember they used the sound track from the beginning of the film up until the robots c3p0 and r2d2 escape to Tatuine.

Well hasn’t today been an interesting experience! Having left home at nine this morning to get to Beck’s I didn’t think I would be returning so late in the evening let alone so tired. It has however been a most excellent day, we got to Kent at just after one o’clock, twenty minutes late to meet our actor and the guy we where renting a car off of. Soon after we arrived we where back on the road, driving to the film location in a convoy of three cars. I ended up parking my car half way up a field close to the location so it was out of the way and not in any of the shots. Later on the farmer who owned the field turned up in a big crop spreader thus I was worried he would a) be angry at us trespassing and B) tell me off for parking in his way. Neither happened, he was quite friendly and didn’t mind me parking there at all, and it turned out I wasn’t in his way at all as he could go through another field to get to where he was heading – he even showed some interest in what we where doing and wished us good luck before continuing up the dirt path to spray his fields.

Filming went well also, we got all the shots we needed and hopefully they shall prove their worth as the entire day cost quite a lot of money. After filming we all felt the need for the pub and thus I drove us towards Britain’s first non smoking pub, a fantastic, traditional, old pub on the way to Bluewater. I can’t for the life of me remember what it’s name is, other than it is easily my favorite to visit. We all had a drink and then I drove us back the interesting way… through London! Haha, yes London, it proved to be an interesting escapade and paid off I think; seeing as we got home in good time with out too much congestion in our way.

So yeah, all in all 340 miles in total today. We drove a hell of a lot more last weekend and pretty similar the weekend before so I would guess that all in all I have driven 1000 miles for our latest film

It’s odd but I have all this work and yet I am not feeling at all stressed, nor am I worrying about getting this all in on time. Maybe at some subconscious level I know I can get it all done and thus not worry about it… maybe I’m just broken.

The weekends shoot went well with few problems and we got all the footage shot that we require for the 5 minute drama. The only problems we incurred where minor lack of staples for staple gun and Beck’s car getting stuck in the middle of a field while exploring locations for the last scene. Beck did the entire project justice by finding a most excellent actor and directing the entire day, keeping us together as a team.

The day was finished off quite nicely with chicken and chips at my house that Beck and Emma cooked followed by a couple of hours of Wii Sports on my sisters Wii

Now I have a tonne of other work to do such as four essays for film studies due in this Wednesday and a short summary of what I have done for professional experience.

I’m going dark for the entire week… see you the weekend – hopefully Sora shall provide some entertainment in the form of a post while I’m away

Spending this weekend with my production team (Shoubs, Emma, Beck & Rachel) at parents house in Kent to get all our filming done and out of the way for a short drama we are producing. I have so much work to do that its all becoming a bit silly, I have taken seven books out today for reading/referencing and need to get a ton of work done this weekend including 60 odd frames for the story board plus four 500+ word essays and if I get time some work on my personal project folder. I can see me working all day Monday and Tuesday to get everything done, going to be a crazy few days during which I will end up disappearing so see you soon.

p.s image is self explanatory… or at least I think so.

It’s official, it has been 34 hours since I last woke up! I haven’t begun to see things that aren’t there just yet however I am beginning to get extremely fatigued, anything more than light mental stimulus and I am getting confused. Bad news however is I am hungry and there is absolutely no food in the house.

Well I had begun writing this post yesterday evening, after spending the previous night in its entirety working on my multimedia project, as you can probably guess I fell asleep before I could finish that blog post. 34 hours is good effort for anyone, let alone someone who did it with aid of no caffeine what so ever!

So what is up with the title, I am sure your wondering what it was that I did to “Get my Geek on” well Ian my 209 Video lecturer used it in yesterdays lecture while explaining the harsh fact of university life that it isn’t the every night out drinking and all night parties that many think it is. That university life is actually about working towards getting a career in what you love doing, media is not the easy course that many prejudge it as being and the media industry is a very long way from being just a walk in the park! CCM (Communication, Culture & Media) is a very difficult course and involves a lot of hard work both practically with film production, graphic design, etc and academically with the extensive knowledge of culture and media theory, the science behind the many forms of communication and the skills and techniques used in lighting, editing, script writing, advertising, interface development, directing, camera working, logging and many, many, many other fields that are all taught under the CCM banner. Getting you geek on is about organising your life so you get your work done and enjoy going out, both can be accomplished without sacrificing the other it just takes skills

Well it’s midnight now and I have had so much work to do today that this blog post has remained open since 11am this morning, so without adding anymore to it I shall post. Good night.
