It bemused me for a while to find a website called stair porn, that itself was devoted to nothing but pictures of stairs. Now while I can quite readily believe that someone, somewhere gets happy to images of stairs and that for some reason right angles does it for them however in this case the website in question while most likely up their street has nothing devilishly erotic about it or the content it hosts.

While one can rightly agree that the photos stairporn does play host to does fetishise the stair form itself it is in an appreciative way throwing good comment to form and function, commenting visually on the design and giving high-fives where necessary. In essence stairporn is a collection of very well designed, interesting stair like constructions that make the audience both admire and feel strangely attracted to what is otherwise a simple medium for moving up or down.

I have included below a small gallery of my favourites from browsing stairporn.com and would reccomend you view them and then go visit the website for some more beautiful architecture!

While I have seen many different tree house designs in the past (none of which I appear to have blogged about), this one has to be one of the most impressive to date. Although it is dubious as to whether it can be considered a true tree house by the childhood definition of planks of wood nailed to a fork high up in a tree, the one pictured above is indeed a wooden house built 16 feet above the ground and supported by the surrounding trees which is good enough a reason for me to call it a tree house. Whats really good about this one is the fact that you may rent it out on holiday to spend a nice time exploring the local forest and getting to know nature a little bit better.

Above you can see what looks like a very cosy interior of the aforementioned tree house, it has a second level in the loft space however from the description that sounds like its the sleeping area for two people while the second couple would have to make use of the two sofas pictured above. Beings based near the Edisto River makes this an unlikely holiday destination for myself due to being thousands of miles away; which is unfortunate because it looks amazing.

Before I came to Coventry to study at University I had a clear idea what the word Home meant. The concept of home to me was a place where I felt safe surrounded by family and friends, a place I would always come back to at the end of the day.

Moving to Coventry and attending university has changed that slightly, the line drawn between away and home has been considerably blurred to the point that I now see both locations as home, rather than one or the other. I have been asked to sum up both locations with an object that represents them, this is a difficult task for me as I have come to feel that Coventry is as much my “home” as living with my parents at the home they made for me. Physically the two locations are quite different, my parental home is set in rural Kentish countryside and is surrounded on all four corners by green and bird song which in Coventry is replaced with city sprawl and the noise of the seven o’clock number 41 bus rumbling at the bus stop outside. This is however a shallow comparison, physical differences between the two locations aren’t what makes one a different home from the other; arbitrary emotional attachments to both people and places in each location are what make one unique from the other.

My question to you is what means home to you? Not surprisingly to many it is a different place than that where they currently reside, be it their home-land or a place they grew up. Coventry to me is my second home its very different from the parental home but its also where my friends are, a place where I am happy and secure and while these are intangible ideas they are what makes a home for me.
